I’ve been meaning to write and extol the values of a membership card for the SBMA. We purchased a membership at the sustaining level ($100.00) in February. In addition to the satisfaction of knowing that we are supporting one of South Bend’s cultural gems, and receiving free entry into the museum’s exhibits and special events, the card has been an incredible value.
The real value, though, has been FREE entry into a number of incredible institutions through the reciprocal membership program. Already this year, we’ve received free entry into two world-class museums–the Detroit Institute of Arts and the Philadelphia Museum of Art–as well as Washington DC’s Phillips Gallery (twice!) and National Museum of Women in the Arts. I will use my card on my next visit to Washington for the Corcoran Gallery and, in connection with an October wedding in Buffalo, NY, at that city’s Albright-Knox Art Gallery and Burchfield-Penney Art Center. In fact, whenever we travel, I consult the list of museums with reciprocal membership.
It’s great to have this savings for other art museums on my must-see list. The card has more than paid for itself this year!”

I had the pleasure of accompanying the 5th grade students from Greene Elementary to the Museum last Wednesday. The program was interesting, informative, creative and fun! They loved the art project, the staff was patient with their energy and we all had a great time!
