Instructor Birgit Scott

Born in Copenhagen, Denmark, Birgit Scott learned to knit at a very
young age, however, it was only one of many leisure pursuits then.  She
received a Fullbright grant and thus came to the USA, where she earned a
B.A. and married a now retired radiologist.  Settling in Mishawaka, IN., she
eventually obtained an M.S. degree in Secondary Education from IUSB and
later an M.A. in German Literature from Notre Dame.  She taught in the
Mishawaka School System and lastly at St. Mary’s College, from which she
retired in 1990.  Since that time she has attended numerous knitting
conventions around the country and taken classes from internationally known
knit designers and other exceptional knitters. She focuses on combining
unexpected colors and developing one-of-a-kind designs in wearable art.  She
has taught knitting over 10 years at the South Bend Museum of Art
and at other venues in this area and in several other states.  Her designs
have been accepted at several juried Fiber shows, notably at Interwoven
Expressions in Valparaiso and Fine Art of Fiber in Chicago.  Presently, her original
hand knitted items can be found in the Dot Shop at SBMA.
